The Holding Paddock
5.0 combined rating1 GoogleLocated on the doorstep of the iconic Victorian High Country, just 20 minutes south of Licola, The Holding Paddock offers camping on the banks of the Macalister River surrounded by rolling hills. Historically, the site served as an overnight stop for holding cows during the two-week journey from Wonnangatta Station to the saleyards in Heyfield - giving the site its iconic name. This site can be used as a starting point for experienced four-wheel drivers doing the popular Wonnangatta Iconic 4WD Tour, accessible from Licola via the Tamboritha Road. This multi-day trip takes in several High Country Huts as well as the breathtaking Pinnacles Lookout, Billy Goat Bluff Track and historic Wonnangatta Station. The campground offers 10 flat campsites of varying size, providing options for caravans and camper trailers as well as vehicle-based and tent camping. An abundance of fire pits, picnic tables and toilet facilities add to the offerings of this site. The site also has water access via a short walking track winding down to the river.
